Choose your dimensions - You can choose the height of your cupola as well as the number of sides. If you have multiple cupolas on your home, it is best to keep the same number of sides or it can become distracting. However, having a taller central cupola and shorter endcap cupolas lends a graceful, sloping look to your roof.

Choose the number of cupolas - If you have a medium-sized roof, you can choose between one large cupola or two smaller cupolas. For long roofs, it is best to have two or even three cupolas. Is your house an unusual shape, or does it have multi-level roofs or a detached garage? With a few well-placed cupolas, you can gain a unique roof design that ties your whole house together.

Complementary or matching? - If you have decided on multiple cupolas, you are now faced with another choice: do you want them to match, or be complementary? “Isn’t that the same thing?”, you ask. Actually, they are separate design techniques. “Matching” cupolas means that they will be identical: same style, same custom design elements and features, and same colors. “Complementary” cupolas have different features that tie in with each other for a broader aesthetic.

For example, you could choose two Waterford cupolas with different roof shapes. Or you could choose a concave window cupola and a concave louver cupola with matching patinated bell-shaped roofs. There are many options for mixing and matching designs to create a truly unique roof design.

Weathervanes - Nothing adds personality and flair like a weathervane! Choose a style that represents your interests or reflects the environment around you. Beautiful and practical, a weathervane is always sure to please.

One of the most loved benefits of a window cupola is the warm, natural light it brings into a home. This helps make a home feel more open and can even reduce electric bills. But what happens once the sun sets? A window cupola can still brighten up your home - but this time on the outside!
 
A popular method is to place a standard light bulb feature at the bottom of the cupola. This gives off a soft, warm glow through the cupola windows without getting the harsh, direct glare of a light bulb. If you have a copper roof on your cupola, this upward lighting method allows the metal to wink out at passersby, even in the depths of night.  And it doesn’t take much to make an impact: just a standard LED light bulb, no more than 8 watts.
 
Another lighting option is to suspend a lantern from the ceiling of the cupola. We have a dozen cupola lanterns to choose from, in a variety of styles to match any home. We have lanterns to suit any taste, from traditional Colonial lanterns to fun pineapple shapes to an “onion” lantern that would look at home in Edison’s workshop. They are also available in a variety of finishes, from classic black or sultry bronze to cheerful copper, whether polished or patinated. Whatever lantern you choose, it will bring cheerful warmth to your roofline.

For a small, additional fee, we can fit one of the windows with a hinge on the inside of the cupola. Simply remove the exterior screws, and the window will swing upward.
