Trick or Treat: How to Dress Up Your Cupola for Halloween
- Set the mood with a colored bulb - There are two ways to light a cupola: with a cupola lantern suspended from the ceiling of the cupola, or by placing a standard light bulb at the bottom of the cupola. Pairing a colored bulb (such as purple) with this upward lighting method is a quick and easy way to create a spooky glow on your roofline.
- Decorate the outside of the glass - Cobwebs draped over your lighted cupola will give it a spooky glow at night. You could also apply cut-out shapes to your cupola’s windows (such as ghosts or witches on brooms) to cast fun shadows at night. You could even create a jack-o-lantern face on your cupola and pair it with an orange bulb for a one-of-a-kind decoration!
- Subtle lighting for dramatic effect - A lighted cupola also can be used to keep your decorations from losing their effect after sundown. It can also enhance their spook factor as sometimes the scariest decorations are the ones that take a while to notice. For example, a giant spider on your roof is fairly visible during the day, but can be hard to spot at night. Place the spider just on the edge of your cupola’s circle of light so that it appears to be lurking in the shadows.
