When it comes to matching a cupola to your home, the shape and color of the roof helps tie the cupola into the rest of the building. Metal roof cupolas offer durability, elegance, and a variety of finishes and colors to complement any home. You can choose one of our stock designs, or build your own custom cupola to meet your exact needs.

Metal Roof Cupolas: Aluminum, Copper, and Painted Steel

When it comes to metal roofs for cupolas, aluminum likely isn’t the first metal that springs to mind. However, aluminum offers numerous benefits, including in hot or seaside environments. Aluminum is an excellent reflector of heat: during the summer, it can reflect over 90% of the sun’s rays, helping to keep your attic space cooler. In the winter, the aluminum reflects heat back into the house to mitigate radiant cooling. Aluminum is also much lighter than steel and copper, making it easier to install.

When it comes to durability, aluminum can last for years without showing much wear and tear. It can withstand extreme weather and does not warp, crack, or rust. If you live in an area that experiences acid rain or has salty air, aluminum will maintain its good looks longer than copper or steel.

By far the most popular roofing choice, copper adds a brilliant pop to any roofline and is one of the longest-lasting metals. That is because as copper ages it develops a beautiful patina (the bluish-green hue) on its surface. However, unlike rust on steel, patina does not damage the copper. Instead, it acts as a protective barrier between the copper and the elements. The development and ultimate color of patina is determined by several variables, including temperature, humidity and precipitation, length of exposure, chemical environment, and the surface condition of the copper. That is why some customers choose a copper roof that is already patinated to ensure a uniform color. If you prefer to preserve the brilliant shine of your copper roof, there are sealants that will help keep a patina from developing or you can clean the copper regularly.

Steel is one of the most durable building materials that - when properly sealed - can last a lifetime. Steel roofs are commonly found in areas that frequently experience high winds and strong storms as they can weather storms with minimal damage. Our Sundance Cupolas have steel roofs and bases that are available in a variety of color combinations, including:
  • Avocado Green
  • Pewter Grey
  • Slate Blue
  • Colonial Red
  • Bronze
  • Light Stone
You can view all 25 color options here. We also custom cut the bases of our Sundance cupolas to match your roof pitch, ensuring a secure fit.
